#Scotland17 Day Eight: The Beach

“The beach is definitely where I feel most at home. It’s my oxygen. I forget how much I need it sometimes when I’m away working.” – Behati Prinsloo

Church, a run and the beach = perfect Sunday! Church was over at Lerwick Baptist and they seemed a very friendly bunch. I decided, after church, that it would be good to run back to The Booth and had taken some kit with me to facilitate this. The road between the two, whilst void of footpaths, was gorgeous with beautiful sweeping views and courteous drivers who didn’t attempt to run me down. There were a few challenging hills, but mainly I loved getting out for the first time in a few weeks and it was a lovely route to end my running break – training has now begun for the Killin and Doonhamer 10ks.

After a quick bite of lunch, we headed for Meal Beach on Burra island, one over from Trondra where I’m staying. My friends say this is their favourite beach, and I can see why. Clear turquoise ocean, clean white sands, and rocks to scramble on – perfection.

Shetlandic word of the day:
Ayre – a beach
