After a church service at Lerwick Baptist, I headed for an adventure in the west of the Islands including Historic Scotland’s Staneydale Temple, a very interesting Neolithic structure hidden on one of the few points in Shetland from which you cannot see the sea. Whether it was a temple, or indeed a village hall or celebration venue, it provided an excellent refuge for a picnic and without the cool breeze, the sun felt rather intense.
Having got my history fix in for the day I headed to nearby Walls for some scenery and a cool drink before heading towards Twatt (and of course taking a photo of the sign). It was a great drive and a very chilled day, complete with a fantastic Indian meal in the evening.
