Dishley parkrun, Loughborough

Dishley parkrun, Loughborough is only a few miles away from the University which would have medalled 6th in the Commonwealth games! It’s also close to where I grew up so I’d been meaning to visit for a long time. Even in a town with a pedigree for running, all (no matter their ability) were made to feel very welcome and there was a great buzz around.

The route is almost an out and back, though using parallel paths reduces what could be even more congested trails. It certainly looked more complex than it felt and the marshalls/signage certainly made it clear. The scenery is stunning, especially around the reservoir and along the canal towpath. It’s also pretty flat, though if you visit after any kind of wet weather it won’t help with your time and trail shoes will be a must.

It was great to be back in my childhood town and to take part in my first parkrun for a while.

Facilities wise: I walked in, but there was car parking and dedicated bike parking too. The Rugby clubhouse was open afterwards serving a wide range of food and drink to many happy customers. Clean toilets at the start/finish area are always a bonus!
