#Scotland17 Day Twelve: A fish called 12views

“Being out there in the ocean, God’s creation, it’s like a gift He has given us to enjoy.” –
Bethany Hamilton

Today I got offered the chance to head onto the open water – sea kayaking and sea canoeing – with an instructor from Shetland Canoe Club at their Nesting base. Whilst it was my first time on the water since a teenager, under excellent tuition, I had great fun and was soon travelling around the bay manoeuvring and getting a taste for each of the disciplines. By the time we finished my legs, chest and arms felt like lead and I decided it was time to head to the beach for a rest!

I opted for St.Ninian’s Isle which has a beautiful tombola beach joining the land and island with the crystalline Pacific ocean on either side. After a short walk around the island to find the old chapel, I had a brief swim in the “refreshing” ocean. The weather was gorgeous, I even had to apply sun cream as I sat and relaxed on the sand. A little bit of perfection followed by fish and chips!

Shetlandic word of the day: SPAEGIE – a pain in the back or legs caused by over-exertion (DOMs).
