#Scotland17 Day One: A tale of three abbeys

“The poetic side of me is Scottish”– Annie Lennox

Today I visited three of Historic Scotland’s border abbeys: Jedburgh Abbey; Dryburgh Abbey; and Melrose Abbey.

The dichotomy between the church I’d experienced in the O2 last week and the empty ruins I stood in the shadows of today struck me. Three great houses of prayer that were ruined through a mixture of war, religious divides and financial gain. There’s probably some sort of warning or sermon in that, but I’m on holiday!

Scotland is beautiful, and after 5 hours of driving, I am happy to finally be hitting the hay having made a quick gallery of pictures from today.
