#Alba18 Day 20 – I saw the lighthouse

Straight off the Shetland ferry and into Aberdeenshire ready for a packed day of adventure!

First stop, Kinnaird Head Castle Lighthouse and the Museum of Scottish Lighthouses. I loved it! The museum was really focused but very interesting with some interactive displays and great stories. A cafe with a fantastic view over the sea provided a tea break before a guided tour around the lighthouse which was superb! If you’re a historic Scotland member both are included in membership otherwise it’s around £10 per person.

Next up was Fyvie Castle an incredibly beautiful property situated in equally impressive surroundings. Due to a wedding in the upcoming days it was guided tours only. There were lots of interesting stories behind the castle including the grizzly “murder room”. A National Trust of Scotland property I’m sure on a good day you could spend the whole day here exploring the grounds as well as the house.

Finally I visited Tolquorn Castle a fab ruin with loads to explore and some wonderful towers. Would be an amazing place to play hide and seek.
